Noreen,

I have Gains in my family history, namely George Gain who married Ann Weller about 1870. They had several children one of whom is memorialized on the Westfield World War I tablet at the Westfield church. Any details you have can only help in my search for my ancestors. (I also have a Ray connection or two!) Please drop me a line so we can trade information. Thanks. FS. Weller

Hello Meg,

I have a Henry Gain in my family tree. He married my great aunt Rosetta Emily Stunt. They had children named Henry, Lester, May, Hattie and Olive. I don't know when Henry was born or who his parents were, but Rosetta was born in 1868, so perhaps Henry was born round about that time. Do you think there could be a connection at all and do these names mean anything to you?

Regards,

Noreen Carey

William Gain born about 1816 in Ore Sussex was sentenced to 10 years transportation at Lewes Assizes in Oct 1843. William had married Caroline Marchant in 1837 and they had 2 children: Henry and Harriett. William was on board "The Equestrian" which set sail for Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania) in Jan 1844. He died in Hobart October 1st 1893. Anyone connected to this family please get in touch as I have notes of his trial from the Assizes reports at lewes
